Recently Completed Noise Abatement Projects:  Mining Industry

Customer:                   Newmont Mining Company – Elko, Nevada

Description:                  Ball Mill Noise Abatement

Project Summary:         Acoustical Systems, Inc. analyzed noise emitted by a ball mill in the processing facility of this gold mine.  ASI designed, fabricated, and installed a specialized acoustical composite to the rotating ball mill resulting in a 10 dBA reduction to the mill noise.  ASI is still providing replacement blankets as required.

Customer:                   US Steel Mining – Adger Alabama, Pineville, West Virginia

Description:                  Acoustical Engineering Feasibility Study

Project Summary:         Acoustical Systems performed an acoustical engineering feasibility study of underground operations and the preparation plant facilities.  The study identified noise sources and offered prioritized list of noise abatement recommendations, material specifications, and estimated costs.

Customer:                   BHP Minerals – Fruitland, New Mexico

Description:                  Acoustical Engineering Feasibility Study/Welding Shop Noise Abatement

Project Summary:         Acoustical Systems, Inc. performed an acoustical engineering feasibility study of two Marion Draglines and a repair shop facility.  The study identified noise sources and offered prioritized list of noise abatement recommendations, material specifications, and estimated costs. ASI then furnished an acoustical composite panel to replace the existing welding screens in the repair shop.  The new product reduced the noise levels in the weld shop without interfering with the welding operations.

Customer:                   Engelhard – Gordon, Georgia

Description:                  Acoustical Engineering Feasibility Study

Project Summary:         Acoustical Systems, Inc. performed an acoustical engineering feasibility study on vibrating screens in this clay mine processing facility.  The study identified noise sources and offered prioritized list of noise abatement recommendations, material specifications, and estimated costs.

Customer:                   Cargill Salt – St. Clair, Michigan

Description:                  Community Noise Study

Project Summary:         Acoustical Systems, Inc. identified the source of local residential noise complaints, determined compliance with local community noise ordinances, and developed noise control recommendations, specifications, and estimated costs to remedy the problem.  ASI received contract to implement recommendations and community noise ordinances were achieved.

Customer:                   Carmeuse, North America

Description:                  MSHA Noise Abatement Program - Engineering Feasibility Study

Project Summary:        Acoustical Systems, Inc. was contracted to review an MSHA citation and determine what acoustical engineering controls would be required to reduce the noise exposure levels for three job classifications.  ASI determined that the full-shift noise exposure levels were such that the noise levels produced by the crusher and other processes equipment would not require total acoustical enclosures. Recommendations were implemented and significant noise reduction was achieved.  MSHA citation was withdrawn.
